Comment:

There have been several discussions on these forums about this thing. I have an old 486 TravelMate4000e laptop.

What I have managed to do uptodate is:

* Boot system with dos6.22 bootdisk.
* Install win 3.1
* Starting windows by booting first with dos6.22

What is the problem: * I wan't always boot with diskettes. So how could I get the computer to start dos itself?

I'v tried to install dos, but when I boot with different bootdisk I got the message: invalid NTLDR or something.

And when I manage to boot the computer with 6.22 and I try to install dos it doesn't want to do it. Plaah.

So someone helpfull people. Give me an advice I can survive with...

It sounds like your laptop has had Windows NT and NTFS partition. FDISK harddrive and create a DOS partition. Load MS-DOS onto harddrive first (Do not just boot from a floppy) the install Win 3.1

To jocelyn
Same to you fully install MS-DOS onto your harddrive before you install Win 3.1 to get full DOS support!

If you say you have win 3 installed and can run it after a dos boot then you are ok ,just sys c: with a boot disk with sys.com on it and it will boot dos first and then type win for your windows. I use DRDOS 7.3 it's free download everywhere and will fix all your problems,it will dual boot with any other version of windows and you can have your win 3 and dos and nt 95 98 whatever!
