Fred,

Once you begin the installation of Win 3.1 from DOS by typing Setup, the installation begins and after each disk is done, you are asked for the next until the installation is finished (DISK 6).

My guess is that you have a bad set of 3.1 installation disks.

What version of DOS did you install?

I have Dos 6.2. The first 3 disks installed fine
and I got no error messages. It even showed
that it installed up to 100%.

BTW what do you have to type to get into the
Windows program?

Win [ENTER]

However, if you started with a formatted hard drive and just installed 3 disks, I would guess that you have installed DOS only. Windows 3.1 is generally 6 diskettes, which you install after DOS is on your system.

If Windows is installed on your computer, when you get to a DOS prompt

C:>\

Type DIR *. [enter]

This will list all the directories immediately on your C: drive. If windows 3.1 is installed, one of the directories will be "windows".

Oh the 4th graders are off again for the summer.

Dear hmmm,

If you don't cut it out I will talk to your parents, and you won't be able to get up to PBS.org to print stuff to color anymore.

Well I feel stupid for not seeing my problem! I overlooked the fact that I had a messed up user.exe file which caused the installation to quit. Anyway I have win 3.1 up and running now. Thanks for your support anyway.
