Hello,
This message is not meant to start any "flame" wars, rather it's just idle curiosity on my part, OK.
Which major corporate/educational/medical entity's still use either DOS with WIN31 or WFW311 as a primary operating system? I'm sure that there must be some corporate hold-outs doing the 16-bit shuffle, eh?
Comments and/or info anyone?

You would be amazed at the number of companies that still use WfWG311! (Not many used Win3.1 in the first place)
I know of at least 4 (2 not that small) who do. becouse when you think about it why do thy need 32bit computing for basic wp or speardsheet work. They do have 9x machines as well. but the basic setup is workgroups.

I work in IT for a local health care trust here in the UK. We use standalone Windows 3.11 PC's and networked Windows for Workgroups 3.11 servers with Office 4.2 with Word Document Templates, Excel Speadsheets & Custom Databases (Not Microsoft) It has worked for over 10 years with no major problems. We buy new PC's when needed with no OS installed and transfer over what is needed.
If its not broken, Why fix it!
Long live DOS & Windows 3x

There is little point for a Business to upgrade if they have all they need already, I personally find that the Win 3.11 interface is easier to use for newcomers to computers. And if they want a 32bit OS why not get WIN NT 3.1 or 3.51 because it still uses the old interface. Windows 3.11 and before as well as DOS will not die until every computer in the world stops using it and every website with advice/downloads for it is shut down. Microsoft will never be able kill it's old children...

I also know a lot of professionals (including my brother who's a lawyer ;-), that use even older systems than Windows 3.xx.
There are a lot of professionals who still use DOS and are running (administrative) DOS programs!
I myself prefer WYSIWYG tekst editing (Windows 3.xx has this build in standard with Write), but even professional writers still use WP 5.1!Another example are the Amstrad computers with Locoscript wordprocessor which are still used!
Professionals find these systems much more stable than newer OS.
Also they paid a lot of money for it at the time and they don't want (or need) to invest again. There are also a lot of proffesional applications that are still running in a DOS box on a Win9x or higher machine.
Normal DOS is even better for this type of programs.....So the bottom line is:
Never change a winning team! ;-)

If you do really want 32-bit, NT 3.51 is great, as mentioned above. It looks a lot like Windows 3.1, but can run several Win9x/NT4+ programs, like Office 97, and even some programs that say they won't work on NT 3.51. (If anyone wants more info on this, check out the Windows NT 3.51 section of my website.) But Windows 3.1 is still a great GUI. It can run at a great speed on PC's that couldn't support NT or 9x. And it is much faster on a say, an older 486 than Win95 or NT could ever be. I don't think I'll ever quit using my Windows 3.11/MS-DOS 6.22 setup. If it does what you want it to, why waste your time with the newer systems? Windows 3.1 lives on...

I've seen a real estate office that has several computers on a network running Windows 98, but the main server on the network, which is where 98 PCs get their internet access, is running what I think is Windows for Workgroups 3.11.
