ppl i need some major help, i have an old 486 computer which needs boot disk to start up the computer. the problem lies here that i had a boot disk which i tried to boot up with, but i didnt seem to do anything.
if anyone can help me find a win3.1 boot disk i will appreciate it. thx !!!

There are no Windows 3.1 boot disks, as Windows is only a GUI. You need a DOS boot disk. Windows 3.1x is dependant upon DOS, which is your OS. You need to download a disk compatible with your DOS version. I have many boot disks available for download on my site. The address to it is:
http://k-semler.filetap.com

if U go to http://www.bootdisk.com
U will find one there I think he has it.
He has another disk .I made one called bootme.Look 4 it.It used dos,win98 & a dosshell.To boot with.
I'm sorry to disagree with anyone on this.
U use dos & windows files both.I'll try to find my notes & post it on my site .R come back here & post it.
If U can't find it e-mail me.I know I have it on disk.

First make a bootdisk,Copy the config.sys
and autoexec.bat files to the disk.
If the autoexec.bat file on the a drive don't have win as the last
command.then edit it and add the win as the last line.
Go to the Windows directory and copy all the ini and grp files.
Now you can boot Windows from the A: drive. You can also make a directory of dos on the floppy disk and load all
the files that are in the startup files to A:\dos Includeing the
mouse drivers. Also copy all the main files of dos.like xcopy, scandisk,
fdisk, format. If you have dosshell ad it.Then in the autoexec.bat files
add dosshell in the place of win.
Change the load files in the config.sys and autoexec.bat files to read
device=A:\dos instade of device= C:\dos
This is good if you have a crash and lose the command.com file. You can
boot up to dosshell and have your mouse. Then you can drag and drop the
command.com back to c:
If dos is deleted you can do the samething.
You may still say this's a dos bootdisk.
It is in part.Remove the windows files & try to boot up windows in a crash.Hope this helps. Have a nice day everyone

Pablo, not wanting to get into the time-worn argument about just what constitutes a bootdisk, but if DOS isn't properly installed on your hard drive, then you will always need to boot from a floppy to start Win31. Some Windows problems can only be corrected from DOS - I mean, that's how it was installed in the first place. Many disk problems need to be addressed in DOS - and believe me, it's rare not to have some sort of a floppy/hard drive problem at some point.
Basically, Win31 works best if the DOS it depends on is in good order.

Time-worn argument .Not at all..Just some good comments...Yes it's a dos boot disk with windows files. Also remember u don't have to have dos, just a system hard drive.
That's all the dos U need .Windows 31 will work just find.On a windows 31 disk are files to help U to recover from a crash. In less U like to reinstall everything. It don't hirt to have backups. I still have backups from over a year ago.To make a long story a bit short . We both R right.
Thanks 4 your input . It's most welcome.
