win 95 needs at least 16 meg of ram. win95 needs at least 70 meg of hdd space to install. you won't have any space left for programs. win 3.1 will just make it on the hdd. the windows swap file will need some of the hdd space to work.
i would look on ebay, or somewhere for a little better laptop. you'll be happier

This Laptop would be great for MS-DOS 6.22 & Windows(or Workgroups)3.11 with say Word for Windows 2.0 for WP work.

Not really up to Windows 95 standards im sorry to say.

Try Calmira (www.calmira.de) to give it a 95 look!

No, my Zeos laptop w/ 4mb ram is, right now, running 95. Very sluggish, but it runs. (This is Win 95a)

I recommend you read the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=138349. It clearly states that you need:

- A 386DX or higher processor (486 recommended)
- 4 MB of memory (8 MB recommended)
- A standard 3.5-inch floppy disk drive

It also says: you need about 35-40 MB of hard disk space to upgrade to Windows 95 or about 50-55 MB to install Windows 95 on a clean system.

Windows 3.11 for Workgroups requires:

- MS-DOS 3.3 or higher (5.0 or higher recommended)
- 2 MB of memory
- 6 megabytes hard disk space (10 megabytes recommended)

First, you would need to format your hard disk and install MS-DOS 5.0 or higher. Tell the Setup program to install the bare minimum. This will take up (I imagine) no more than 5 MB of hard disk space. Now you can install Windows 3.11 for Workgroups in to a new directory: C:\WINDOWS. Choose to install the bare minimum of optional components. Finally, after rebooting, you can install Windows 95 without any optional extras. Total hard disk space used: 5 + 10 + 55 = 70 MB. This leaves you with about 5 MB to keep your personal files.

Due to the very small amount of space left over on your computer, I recommend something else. I suggest that you should format your hard drive and do a clean install of Windows 95, carefully choosing which optional components you would like to install. Now you have quite a bit of room left over (about 20MB) for your own files, and for Windows 95 to "breathe" in.

Plus, you can still access the familiar Windows 3.1x Program Manager too! Just click Start, Run and type "progman" and hit Enter. Or, just buy a bigger hard disk drive for you laptop. Even better: buy a better laptop!

I hope (some of) this helps!

James

At slashdot.org i saw some article where someone stripped windows 95 down to only 4 meg!!!

Depends what you need really!

Similarly do a search for "98lite" on google, and you'll find a program which lets you install as little as you like of windows 95.

Is it really worth it? What can a laptop like that actually do?
I'd rather use pen & paper! lol

upgrade upgrade upgrade!!! trust me a computer like that will give you nothing but a hard time, you'll a computer with atleast 200mb or more and atleast a 33mhz proccessor and 16 mb of ram anything less then this would make you pull your hair out! they say that win95 can run on slower systems but lets be realistic yes it could but it would be slow not to mention the word proccessors and other type of apps that you'd need for school (power point, word, etc...) i have a 486sx @ 33mhz with 20 mb of ram a 214mb (supposed to be 1gb) hard drive and windows 95a it runs good, and beleive it or not alot faster then my old win 3.1 and dos install, now thats what i think and i know there are people that will say other wise and maybe their right too but i'm being practical here, with that computer you have i'd install dos 4 or 5 and win 3.1 then i'd get a word processor (i had works 3.0 [i think] on my old 3.1 install) and maybe power piont (i had power piont 3.0 on my old 3.1 install) and all of this would run fine on 80mb and 4 mb of ram so good luck with this (you'll need it)

windows 95 needs a MINIMUM of 4 MB's ram...as stated above, more is better...but it will load

DOS 6 and Win3.1 are a better idea, imo...but you can go either way

Log onto www.calmira.de and see what 3.1 can look like!

There is still life in DOS & Windows 3.1

Its taken 10 more posts to tell you. You are better of sticking with Win3x untill you can afford a better laptop.
