what to do?

i have a laptop puter that someone gave me and i guess because they couldnt figure out whats wrong with it...but i turn it on and it starts booting up but im not sure what to do next i get this at the end after it boots up....c:\ im not sure what im suppose to do next ...the computers im used is the one im on not the ones with 3.1 in it....it says it is ms dos version 5.00 but thats about all i know ...can anyone tell me what im suppose to type in to go farther in the computer?im a dummy at this one that was gave to me ....so if anyone can please help me then please let me know feel free to email me at JNLinbama@aol.com

try typing win after the c:\>. if it starts youve got win31 on it. the c:\> is a "dos" prompt- thats where you enter commands- if you dont know what a dos prompt is you better hope windows31 is on it! Good Luck

Well, what do you want to do?
DOS5 will support Win3xx - whether or not that's installed, hard to say.
Might have the good old Dosshell file manager on it, if Windows isn't there, try:
dosshell
or maybe
\dos\dosshell
That'll give you a better idea of what's on the machine (if it's there)

At the dos prompt "c:\" type dir/p this will give you a list of things that are on the computer.

Don't blame Xp it doesn't even use Dos anymore!!! LOL
Summary: Well... quite a bit more info than on your post on the DOS page. Sounds like an Old 8 bit machine (8088) which cannot support Win31, and yes, it does sound like it had (has?) DOS5 on it. Pretty limite...
