I am so confused! I try to boot up my old 386 running dos 6.22 and wfwg 3.11 and get an error saying not enough free extended memoery...what do i do?!? it is an old 386sx 16mhz and my hd is like so small it is like 15 megs...ne good FREE compression tools i can use?!? thanx so much!
The error message that you are getting has nothing to do with your hard drive storage space. It has to do with the Ram Memory in your computer. In dos mode try running Memmaker to see if that helps, if it doesn't then you'll need to increase the amount of memory.
As for a disk comprression tool:
With MS-DOS 6.22 You already have a disk compression tool. It's called DriveSpace. Boot the computer to dos and at the dos prompt type
help drvspace
and you can read about how to use it on your computer. Using it on a 386sx 16MHz system, you'll notice a slow down of your computer as it uncompresses files from the compressed part of your drive. The better solution would be to get a bigger hard drive or even add a second, but that wouldn't work it you already have a cd-rom already connected as a slave.
