I found adriver for it (the samsung) on the net and downloaded it. Also this computer doesn't have a phome jack on it to hook up to the interenet. There is an opn slot in the back of the computer where a printed circuit or somethimg must ahev been at one time or another. What kind of modem am I looking for and what kind of softwaer? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. J

IF you have a standard PC you need to purchase an ISA BUS internal hardware modem, you will find second user on EBAY, make sure it does come with the drivers for W3.x.

Easiest way is to find an external hardware serial port modem which is Hayes command compatible, software or WinModems will not always run at full speed.

It will be difficult to find a Winmodem (beware of as almost all internal modems are today) that will work with Windows 3.1, therefore do as x86 says and get an external serial modem. You COULD also get an old internal ISA modem that isn't a winmodem, but it will be easier (as x86 says) not only to find but to be sure of compatibility with Win 3.1. You will not need drivers for the external serial modem. Just plug it in, and point to the serial port it's connected to.

Good luck.

Thanks for the replies; any chance in your spare time to refer me to an ebay item number(s) that would work well or OK? Thanks. J

Modems most of the old ones do not come

with drivers but if you use IE3 to IE5 for
a browser. The browser will come

with a stack dialer that will have modem

drivers in it.

Beware, as there are ISA Winmodems and therefore may not be compatible with DOS/Win 3.1. If you are choosing to go that route, MAKE SURE the modem has Win 3.1 drivers (or it doesn't require drivers, ie hardware modem). Otherwise, make it easy on yourself and get an external serial modem. Good luck.
