Can anyone recommend what internet explorer version to use on a 486 PC with windows 3.11 on it? Explorer 3 don't seem to be Y2K compliant so I guess either version 4 or 5 should be used, but which of 'em gives the best performance on my "old" PC?!?!

Microsoft says the requirements for Internet Explorer 5 for Win 3.1 are;

486 25Mhz
12 Meg Ram
I don't remember hard drive requirements, but I have it on a 486 with DOS 6.22, win 3.1 and some other stuff on a 120 MB hard drive and I still have plenty of room.

If you don't meet those requirements I would advise using Internet Explorer 3.03a. The A is the upgrade to make Internet Mail able to correctly read the date. I am not sure where the updated version is. You would think that you could find it on the Microsoft site, but they don't seem to like to keep anything in the same place for more than a week.

You could always load IE 3.03 then use Eudora Light for email.

Go to lycos ftp search you will find every browser they made for windows 3.1, 3.11 95, 98, even mosiac and opera, good luck
