WFWG 3.11 Cable modem/router

I recently found my WFWG install disks and decided to load 'em up. I now have a working Win 3x system running beautifully, expect for one minor problem. I can't get on line through my router. I've installed all available updates. If I plug my CAT5 cable directly into my cable modem it works fine, but if I go through my router WFWG can't get on-line or recognize my other computers. I have 4 other computers hooked up to the router, also wireless connection to my laptop; but the whole thing was set up using WinXP's Home Networking wizard, using "network w/o a domain" or "workgroup" network settings. (Basically the simple, XP version of home networking.) I get the feeling that's the problem. Would I be better off setting up manual IP addresses and DNS info on my router? Any suggestions, other than forgetting about it or plugging and unplugging cables would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have TCP/IP installed ???

TCP/IP you need to setup as a DHCP Client, ie receive IP from DHCP Server.

Do you have Internet Explorer 5.xx 16bit ?

You need to run the router setup and have it clone the MAC address of the network card on your computer. See your Router manual. It should work fine after that.

Look at your router configuration in it's Setup. If you have a MAC address filter turned on, you need to add the MAC address of the WFWG computer's network card.

I will say again if WfW3.11 is set up with the updated TCP/IP Stack it can be a DHCP Client.

He already has a DHCP Basic Server in the Router, which is handing out IP's to the XP PC!

Thanks for your suggestions. I do have TCP/IP-b installed, and it's set up for DHCP. Like I said it's reading and using my cable modem, but not the router. I tried the MAC address setup in my router (Linksys WG54T), but it already shows the MAC from the WFWG computer. I've tried pinging it from WFWG computer and get errors. I pinged my cable modem and it worked fine. That's what is really wierd, my router sees the WFWG computer, but not the other way around. There's a loss of communication going to my router but I can't figure it out. It's not like it's a do or die situation (obviously), but it would be nice to leave the whole mess hooked up & working. I think I'll try my other router (dLink) and see what happens there. I'll let you know.

Why is it always the easy s#&% that's the most overlooked? I am writing this to you on a fully functional, fully networked (even has printer sharing with a system running XP Pro x64) WFWG system. Can we all say "patch cable"? Yep, had the wrong damn cable plugged in. Woe is me.

Anyway, it's wonderful to be using Win 3.1 again, though a bit of a learning curve (apparently), but I'm having a blast. Thank you all for your assistance; you're great!
