I want to install Windows for Workgroups 3.11 on my Compaq Aero 486-25mhz 8mb ram laptop that is currently running Win3.1, but am afraid it might run slower. Anyone know if this would be the case?

Unless you are going to network there is no advantage in updating. They should run about the same.

It shouldn't slow down your laptop. Go ahead and install it if you have a reason to do it, especially if you want to hook it into a network. I have it installed on some 386s with 6 Meg of RAM and it runs fine on them.
If you plan to use your laptop for the Internet and/or email, then either version, 3.1 or WFWG will be about the same. The full version of Internet Explorer has a built in dialer that will work with both versions.

I forgot to mention you can get the core win 3.11 update files seperately from the Powerload site.

Summary: Hi Rocco MCP: This is just a guess, but to my knowledge you need to install Win 3.1 or 3.11 after you install DOS to a hard drive. When you install the OS on your system it is "custom" to that machine...
