I want to install Windows for Workgroups 3.11 on my Compaq Aero 486-25mhz 8mb ram laptop that is currently running Win3.1, but am afraid it might run slower. Anyone know if this would be the case?

Unless you are going to network there is no advantage in updating.
They should run about the same.

Well
windows 3.1 it a version that needs a trumpet winsock to go to internet
windows 3.11 is a version with native winsock
I read in some chats in near 1999 that win
3.11 is good for use dos and windows at time
for internet but it would be creating backdoors A firewall good solve it
The good of 3.11 was to run oldest icq software but nowadays mirabilis has version
of banner and I do not know if they are
blocking older versions to access their network

It shouldn't slow down your laptop. Go ahead and install it if you have a reason to do it, especially if you want to hook it into a network. I have it installed on some 386s with 6 Meg of RAM and it runs fine on them.

If you plan to use your laptop for the Internet and/or email, then either version, 3.1 or WFWG will be about the same. The full version of Internet Explorer has a built in dialer that will work with both versions.

I forgot to mention you can get the core win 3.11 update files seperately from the Powerload site.
