I'm trying to network a WFW 3.11 machine with an XP machine. Ran into problems. Borrowed a friend's XP machine to try to narrow it down.
Networked XP to XP with no problems. This verifies the loopback cable I made works and my XP machine works. It is a new HP and running the NIC hardware test fails but it appears to be a problem with the test software as all worked fine.
My machine's XP machine didn't have a NIC so I used the NIC from my other machine. A NetGear PCI card. This verifies it works. When I put the NIC in my machine however (in slot 1) the Controller Internal Loopback and Twister Internal Loopback tests sometimes fail. They sometimes fails in my friend's computer as well but again it networked fine.
Setup all of drive C to be shared on the WFW 3.11 and XP machines and both have the same workgroup name. Neither machine however can see the other. In WFW's file manager I can't map a drive to the XP machine. It doesn't show up and typing it in I get a message saying server doesn't exist.
Any ideas?

Found the problem. Windows XP doesn't include support for the NetBEUI protocol. That is the one WFW 3.11 uses. This side includes info. on how to install it and the two files needed if you don't have access to an XP System CD or Win 2K.

Jody,
you could also add TCP/IP as the default protocol for the WfW machine's NIC. If you need the file, I could email it to you.
