I don't think there is such thing as VESA for Windows, only for DOS.
I haven't tried Unive for Windows yet, but dont expect too much...
Maybe someone can convince me too...

Color depends on the amount of memory your video graphics card has. Win 3.1 will support true color (16 million colors) providing your video card has two or more megabytes of ram.

One Mb of video ram is enough for high color (65,000 colors.)

of course it also depends on the card, even with 1mb, some video cards won't support 16bit color at 640x480 or higher.
windows 3.1 also supports 32bit colour, of course it all depends on the card.
my agp nvidia tnt 1 16mb ram supports it, thats when i can find the windows 3.1 drivers for it, after hours of searching the net.

I've got a 1mb western digital wd90c24 card in the toshiba laptop i'm using. The drivers from toshiba only allow me to go up to 256 colors, even though there are drivers for both 32k and 64k colors (these don't seem to work)...

lol i hope that means something to someone

If there was a real VESA driver for Windows then the problems with AGP cards would be over...

Some AGP cards do have Windows 3.xx drivers, which are hard to find.
Check out previous posts for that..

I still havent seen another OS than DOS that doesn't need a special driver but can use VESA.....Uhh maybe NewDeal/Geos but I havent tried yet.

For Dan:
I think your wd90c24 card comes with different kinds of RAM.
If the 32k and 64k drivers dont work your video RAM does not support this resolution.
(I know this is similar with other cards like Trident 8900)
