ok guys, i really need help with this one. i have a usr 14400 modem, the one with the 8 switches on the bar with the phone/line-in jacks. i need to figure out which positions to have them in, according to the COM port i'm using.....any ideas would be MUCHLY appreciated. thanks ;o)

James,
In case you don't get any responses with the exact setting try this.
I had the same deal on a modem. I booted up the computer, typed MSD and checked all the settings in there.
Then shut down, change another jumper setting and check MSD again. You just keep doing that until you get the COM port setting that you want.
It takes a while, but it works. Of course, If you aren't using DOS 6.22 this won't work for you.

oh shoot, doug, thanks for the reply, and the suggestion......but the problem isn't figuring out which COM port is which. it's actually labeled, on another part of the card. these jumpers have something to do with the interrupt addresses, but not the IRQ (they're also labeled, again on another part of the card). i know, you're confoosed - me too LOL.

James,
The 14.4 USR modem that I had, I believe I sent off to my nephew. But I may have tried to document the dip switch settings as I fiddled with them. I will check tonight at home in my massive mess of computer scribblings that I keep thinking I will organize so I can find them when I need them.
Doug

I've actually got an old US Robotics sportster 14.4 modem which has a set of dip switches on the back - I'll send the details of the settings (set for COM2) if you still need them.
David
