See if mouse works in DOS - of course, you would need the appropriate DOS mouse driver loaded. Also try another port, if possible - you don't provide much info on the device.
If the mouse is functional, try setting up the Windows driver again - if not, get another mouse
Tech Support: "I need you to boot the computer."
Customer: THUMP! Pause. "No, that didn't help."

Do you have a serial mouse? A PS/2? Or a USB?
(Note: if it's a USB mouse, it won't work in 3.1)

Note - since "mouse stopped working in win 3.1" USB seems unlikely in the extreme (especially on a 286!)

Try reinstalling drivers for it. to do this exit windows change to your windows dir. type setup select no mouse or other pointing device exit reboot repeat except choose the approate driver (note if you arew using a logitech mouse the microsoft drivers *will* work but you should use the approiate drivers) btw is it a serieal or a PS/2?
