My friends dad, just got an XP machine. On the 3.1 machine, I am trying to get the files off the C drive and save them so he can use the on the xp mackine. The files are Word2.0 .doc files. Someone on an XP Forum said I can hook the HDD to my computer and get the files off that way. Is that possible? The connectors arn't the same. I tried the floppy drive, but doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions how to do this. Thx

If the XP PC has a FAT file system, download and create two WIN98SE OEM boot floppies from www.bootdisk.com, and using either a Null Modem Serial Cable or Parallel LapLink Cable, transfer files using either;

or LapLinkV:

Or if the files are not to big.
Or if you can split them into small files.
You could just e-mail them to yourself.
Or use an online ftp/vertual drive.

Could be one of the harddrives is an old scsi drive, which would explain the connecters difference...emailing them to yourself is, indeed the best option, as i doubt you'd have more than 30 megs of .doc files..provided your on highspeed you should have no problem sendig them off in 3 or 4 meg packets (zip them up first so that each packet is one file)...if your on dial-up make them a lot smaller (500k each)
and remember to make sure the files aren't kept on the server after (often mail's kept on the server after you pick it up, you dont want to do that if your picking up that much in the way of files!)
