TNT video problems?

I have been having some strange issues with the TNT video drivers for WFW 3.11. The font spacing is incorrect. Things already entered into fields by Windows are crammed together without any spacing between characters. But, if you type something in, it shows up fine. This creates odd results when deleting characters off the end of things already filled in by Windows. If you have a TNT card with Win 3.1, you should know what I'm talking about. Is there any solution to this problem? I do want a display better than VGA, but this is quite annoying. Thanks!

Graphics Card are cheap even 4MB Cards will display 1024x768 in True Color, therefore any graphics cards with chipsets on the following list will do, S3 Trio I find OK:

I'm surprised it says the card's unsupported..TNT's are really not bad at all and pretty established...(8 meg, if i remember right, which isn't a 'supercard', but not bad...) Nvidia based-cards like the TNT and Riva 128 usually have several font size options in the driver display..if the system font sizes and the video driver foont sizes conflict (i.e, one's too large) this could happen..you might want to see if you've installed he drivers with the 'LF' option..this is the large fonts..try switching to the 'SF' setting..or the reverse might help..you might also try changing the system font size (there's a utility called 'sysfon' that's pretty good for that..dunno where to find it, but shouldn't be too hard.. I can't guarantee this is the cause in your case, but i do remember having had similar problems in the past with the wrong video font settings, so....

I know that simply swapping a new graphics card in will easily fix the problem. I don't really consider that a solution. I want to know why the TNT drivers cause the text to do that and if its fixable at all. I'm trying to assemble this copmputer from spare parts lying around my house. And being able to use this instead of going out to find another decent used card would be great.

I did try changing from "SF" to "LF", but all that did was make the problem more obvious (instead of little text crammed together, its somewhat larger, clearer text crammed together). I'll try the sysfon thing and report back what I found out. I guess I'm kind of surprised that I haven't been able to find this issue on any FAQ pages or message boards before. Or am I the only one having this problem? Thanks!

Hi, This might be totally off-base but I just recently ran in that problem when the default printer had somehow been changed to a fax printer. Changing it back to a regular printer solved the problem. HTH. james
