I have a Thinkpad 760xl. The CD Rom works fine in both Windows 95 and Windows NT 3.51. However when I loaded WFWG 3.11 the cd rom shows up in File Manager but it either freezes or takes forever to access cd. Audio cd's won't play. Programs won't run from cd. Whenver I try to use cd it will spin and spin trying to access it but usually it won't happen. If it does it sometimes takes up to 2 minutes, very slow.

1) I know it works because it worked fine in the other 2 Operating systems
2) The Bios test says it is working fine
3) I have the latest cd rom driver from IBM (2003) and it succesfully loaded.

if anyone knows anything please help

Does this happen while accessing your CD drive in pure DOS after the same driver was loaded?

No, DOS recognizes and accesses CD's contents immediately after typing DIR and runs programs from CD Rom (D: drive) like normal

In fact I just got through running Escape from Monkey Island through pure DOS, as soon as I typed in monkey and pressed enter The cd rom immediately started and the program started instantly. I reintered Windows and went to File Manager and hit the D: button, computer froze for about a minute and half and finally displayed the cd's contents. I then double clicked Monkey.exe and the computer froze again this time for good. While this was going on the cd rom would start accessing and then stopped over and over again.

I must reiterate that this does not happen on either Windows 95 or Windows NT 3.51. It makes absolutely no sense why WFWG 3.11 does this. I mean the only reason I bought this laptop was to run WFWG 3.11 and NT 3.51.

Had the same problem with a TP 380Z. Problem seemed to be the IBM driver, but don't know why. Downloaded a generic driver - the oakcdrom.sys - from this site:
http://www.computerhope.com/download/hardware.htm#02
Just copied it to the c:\cdrom directory. Had to modify autoexec.bat and config.sys. Substitute the new driver name for the old one and make sure that the device name is the same in both files. Mine was /D:TPCD001 as I recall. In one of the configuration files the IBM setup ends the line with a /R instead of the full device name so that has to be changed or it won't find the cdrom at all. Hope this helps.
