i deleted a program which, in turn, removed my system.ini file...i would like to get it back....is it important? any suggestions on getting it back

Have you tried undelete in dos in the windows directory also there are backup copies of previous system.ini files that start with system.??? the ? could be a combination of a numbers and letters look for the one with the highest number, this should be the last backup and rename it system.ini.

Yeah, system.ini is pretty important. If you can't "undelete" the file, look for another file perhaps named "system.bak" and rename it "system.ini". Do this only if you've got no other way to restore the original file.
