System requirements for Windows 3.1

..I was just wondering if I could install Windows 3.1 on my another old 286 machine (not actually for serious working- just for fun..) As far I know 3.11 for Workgroups HAD TO work on it but it unfortunately didn't - it required a 386. A big upset because I thought everything would fit- so, is there an older (but still usable ;-D ) version, maybe 3.1 or 3.0 (?) I could use? ..

3.0 should run happily on a 286 tho it would have helped if you gave the specs of the machine you wanted to run it on rather than your main system . . . such as how much Ram it has, hard drive size etc.
