Minimum requirement for win 311:

386SX or higher processor

Msdos 3.3 or later, Version 6 or later recommended

3 Meg of ram, 4 meg recommended. With network capability turn off, only 2 Meg required

10.5 Meg free disk space; 15.5 Meg is recommented

display adapter ( monitor ) vga

For network , you need a network adapter and cable for running Microsoft windows network.

The system requirements are actually:

Windows 3.1x Standard Mode:
Intel 80286 CPU
1MB free RAM
~9MB HDD
CGA or greater display adapter (CGA driver not included, but available)

Windows 3.1x 386 Enh Mode:
Intel 80386 CPU
1.5MB free RAM
~9MB HDD (plus swap space)
CGA or greater

WFWG 3.1x:
Intel 80386 CPU
4MB total RAM
~10MB HDD (plus swap space)
CGA or greater

And at least a FAT (including FAT12, FAT16 or FAT32) drive is required. Win3.x won't work on HPFS/NTFS/Ext2 drives.

just a quick question are HPFS and NTFS the same thing ??

sometimes Pqmagic reports ntfs as hpfs

I read somewhere that windows nt started out as OS/2 so if they are the same it would make sense :-D

NTFS and HPFS are not the same. But HPFS(used in OS/2 and supported by WinNT) is actually the precursor of NTFS.

Well, not exactly..you see that first file system (HPFS) came out when OS2 was a joint venture between microsoft and IBM..remember it was billy that said "OS2 is the platform for the '90s"..
thank god the '90s are over :)
