Your only option is to open the office98 files on a computer with StarOffice, and then convert them into an older format. RTF works as well as could be expected, and don't forget trusty old DOS Text

If the files you wish to convert are in Star Office format then the above reply is correct, else you can download viewers for 16 bit systems (ie WFW311) from the Microsoft download site for Word 97.

You must have:
Win 3.x, WinWord 6.x
Install wrd97cnv.exe and WW 6.x will read files created by WW 97-2000
