hello i have an old ast bravo lc 4/50s. it is a 486 - dunno what speed. all i know is that the cpu has a heat sink, and is made in 1992. i cant see the speed written on the cpu, because the top is covered by the non-removable heat sink. It is made in 1992, but intel. can anyone tell me what speed you think it is? my guess is 66mhz or older ..... is there a program i can use to tell me?

This might be what you need to find out about your system.(system reporter type program) here http://www.hwinfo.com/
click to enlarge screenshot and read to see if it's what you need. If so download. You should be able to type "system diognostic"on any search engine and find a number of sites and/or programs to suit your needs.I have used the above mentioned program and if you need mainly to find out cpu speed, this should do it. But, it's not the only one.(believe me it's not!)

PS. Like always, repost if you need more help.

Hi matt:
Unless you know if the dip switch settings for DX2-66 don't try it. You need to change the clock speed from 2 x 25mhz to 2 x 33mhz to work, if you just replace with a 66mhz CPU it might work, but still will only run at 50mhz. There could also be other switches to change for SX to DX CPU also, I'd say leave it alone.

Good luck.

I got this link from someone on another Forum site, it is jumper settings for 7 Kazillion motherboards, Controller cards etc. There are settings for an AST Bravo lc 4/50d which may be close enough to yours to get it set to 33 Mhz
