Comment:

Hey all. I have MS-DOS 6.22 and WFW3.11. I have everything working fine except sound. Got 512mb RAM. I tried the DOSDRV found in google, but EMM386 is required. I add the line in CONFIG.sys, but when I do, MS-DOS hangs. I've tried removing a stick of RAM but it still hangs. I really need the driver, any help?

In MS-DOS run MEMMAKER to optimise memory.

Their are two PCI SB driver sets, it is more than just DOSDVR, and you need to read the manual, the drivers are available from:

When I run MEMMAKER and hit Yes to enable EMM386, it says, MEMMAKER cannot continue after restarting.

Heheh...I fixed the EMM386 part...
Now I get a message, "PCI device detect failed: Device NOT loading."

I assume it's something to do with the AUTOEXEC.bat...I tried SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330
and SET BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 H5 P330
to no avail. How would I configure this?

As an aside the SB Driver creates an emulation environment for DOS Softwarwe to use IRQ5 for Sound, whereas by default PCI SB Sound Cards use BIOS IRQ10, CMedia Cards are similar.

This SB driver set uses considerable memory Hence why the you must the switches

NOEMS which provides access to the upper memory area but prevents access to expanded memory.

NOVCPI which disables support for VCPI applications and reduces the amount of extended memory allocated.

Your CD is setup wrong if it is IDE/ATAPI:

SET PATH=%PATH%;C:\CDROM ?

Indeed - it's almost painful to read some of these

A matching 'signature' is required for the mscdex & driver lines - as well, mscdex needs to be loaded ahead of smartdrv in order to cache the CD drive, and you should use the DOS622 version, not the older Win31 smartdrv

Bit of a dilettante?
