I'm trying to use SiS 7018 sound in Windows for Workgroups 3.11.
When i tried to listen to sounds in a DOS Box (i started DOS drivers before windows), it played the first second and kept repeating this. In a weird way, the sound works perfectly if i exit windows.
I managed to enable it partially, by enabling SB16 DOS driver (sndinit.exe and sndtsr.exe) and manually (the normal installation refuses to install while detecting the sound card) instaling SB16 drivers mannually like this:
* I copyed the SB16 directory from a VirtualPC machine (from Win98) to the Win3.11 HD
* I ran INSTALL.exe and selected "Setup Windows". As this install assume the card was already detected, it skips this and just setup windows drivers
When I started windows after that, I found out that sound worked partially, just like a dos window.
I suspect that windows traps my sound card IRQ (i tried both 7 and 11, but 11 has to be manually configured in sistem.ini, but it sounds just like the others) in an incompatible way. Is there anyway to keep windows from trapping these irqs at least for the drivers, so they'd use the compatible dos irq interface?

if you went to the SiS website you will find there are supported MS DOS drivers for 7018, though you may have to enable Legacy Sound Blaster support in the BIOS, which could cause sound problems in pure Windows. Unfortunately this is a side effect of emulation, you have to accept comprimises.

I already use them. As there are no Drivers for Windows 3.11, I'm trying to acess sound in Windows through DOS SB16 Emulation. Sound already works great in pure DOS. No luck inside Win3.11
you may have to enable Legacy Sound Blaster support in the BIOSThere isn't any option like that. I've neither enabled or disabled anythig to make sound work in DOS, just loaded the drivers.

i got the same problem as yours...i also need SiS7018 in my PC and make it work in DOS
well theres really no legacySB option in my BIOS... and using SB16 emulator isnt good either, SB16 emulator only works on sound cards that are SB16 supported and should be in a PCI slot
take note:
*(SiS7018 is not in a PCI slot... its built in the motherboard)
*(SB16 emulation doesnt work if theres no sound card in any PCI slot)

uh... anyway how did you get sndinit.exe and sndstr.exe, i cant find it on the sis7018 driver files that i downloaded at the manufacturer's site...

It came with the drivers I downloaded a long time ago... try searching on driverguide. If you can't find them there tell me, so I can send you them by e-mail

thanks man!!!
I got confused on the wav file^_^anyways, i made my pure DOS have sounds now.
and i can play the games that i cannot run in DOSbox v0.63...(Crusader : NoRegret)and i think theres no supported driver of SiS7018 for win3.11
God Bless you man^_^and thanks a lot!!!
