greg, it appears you need to find the drivers to your video card, so that they can be installed into your system directory to work in windows. take the cover off your computer, and have a look at the sound card; it's usually written somewhere either on the card itself, or on a chip soldered onto the card. then go to the left-hand column on this screen, and go to the drivers section to find the correct driver for your card. another good place to find drivers is www.driverzone.com.

greg, you can also try going to the compaq website, and see if they have a custom setu0p for your computer model; it would enable you to download the correct and up-to-date drivers for your video card, sound card, etc., but only if your soundcard came with the computer from the factory, or is built onto the board.
