I have been trying to get a mouse to work on an old 486 with windows 3.11. The mouse is not recognized and I don't know what else to do. I have messed around with the port settings that it goes into, but not too much. Any help would be beneficial.

Hi wmd: I don't know about Win 3.11. but on Win 3.1 you'll need to make sure that you have the correct mouse driver (use logitec or serial mouse settings in setup.exe for serial port mouse). Also make sure you don't have an IRQ conflict where the modem or sound card share the mouse IRQ settings, hope this helps.
Good luck. Z

Furman, I must say that you're wrong. Avoid using DOS mouse drivers when using windows 3.1 (or any other version). It should work, but it may not. Next quit to DOS and run install.exe, in the windows dir. (go there with "cd \windows" or similar). In the install program you should find something like a serial mouse device under mouse section. Sorry if it is a bit unclear, but it was a few years since I did this myself. Hope it helps...
