Where can I obtain a driver for an H-P 5100 scanner?
The original driver used to work in Win 3.1 but replacements being offered do not. My original disks have errors and will not load properly now.

www.driverguide.com is a good place to find almost any driver. You can also try to find the manufacturer's web site to obtain a driver. Good Luck!

As at many places, all that can be found is an "Updated" driver. This has a few little enhansements directed towards the Win 98 end of the same driver package. Upon loading, it goes into a tizzy looking for the original (and hopefully still good) files. Although noted for all versions of Windows, upon trying to install, it gives big warning that it is NOT for Windows 3.1

Maybe the files could be recovered from the floppy. Never tried it but maybe NDD would fix floppy or testdisk ran on floppy ? a 1997 version of spinrite could fix floppies. surely DISKEDIT will run on floppy. Sorry i don't have soln. just some ideas. Another : Drive Rescue (free) will pull data from a damaged floppy, i don't know if it will run from win311 but it will run from 9x.

Best

Well, your RESCUE DISK worked and did not work. I tried it on three items. A knowingly bad floppy disk, the poor performing one, and a very old one.
On the knowingly bad one, it caught the problem, said only a couple items could be retreived, but rest of the disk was junk.
The troublesome disk, it restored, but the scanner software would not load. I think there are some problems elsewhere on the disk. It mentioned that the restore was incomplete then.
The last test was on a 5" Autocad disk which used to give error messages upon trying to reload. There it quietly found three bad spots, and upon trying to install, the drive groaned, but the whole software loaded up correctly. This the first time in maybe three years.
I am going to try it on some other knowingly bad original installation disks this coming weekend. See if I cannot get them active one more time. Let the folks at Rescue Disk know that their instructions are a bit incomplete or maybe advanced. I think they assume that everyone has been following along with their progress, which I haven't.
Thanks much.

IMHO, H.P. is poor at supplying drivers, that's for sure..they wouldn't have win31 drivers anymore anyways..but you could try here-
http://www.scanner-drivers.com/drivers
It's a pretty huge database of downloadable drivers....
or Vuescan might have an earlier version that runs on w31..their page is here-
http://www.hamrick.com/
If they don't have earlier versions, you could google for Vuescan.. it could be on some FTP sites...it's a universal scanner app that supports a huge range of scanners....

No Longer Supported : and not available at their site. They have NEW, not free tools. Sounds like it worked very well for the price.
