Why don't you just add the line SCANDISK C: into your AUTOEXEC.BAT? The your Computer will scan the HD on every bootup. SCANDISK is available in DOS 6.x as well. If you haven'T got it, then you can also use CHKDSK.

yep, its called scandisk.
lives in your dos directory. this depends on what dos version you have. but its definitly there in dos ver 6.22
