Im running 3.11 under 7.10 ('98 Dos) Im tryig to install a SB16PnP manager but when i run it in windows I get Bad FAT (as the 3xstart patch says you must start from the root dir) That is OK, but when i try to run the prog in dos I do this:
D:\
CD WINDOWS
CD SB16
d:\windows\sb16\cbfm.exethen the comp freezes..any idea why?
PLEASE HELP! It will be greatly appreciated!
Jazza

Is this the version of drivers you hhave ???

Im not absolutely sure , but i think PnP wont work at all under anything less than w95- youd probably have to just enter the sb settings in dos manually in your config.sys or so.
I dont think its really related to the 3xstart at all, your prob. I think PnP is controlled thru windows and not dos, meaning w31 doesnt have the means to deal with it, as it wasnt integrated into windows till '95.
Also sb16's have the port set with a jumper on the board (usually irq 5, i think, but i'd have to check) so i dont see as youd really want PnP anyways, as the port wouldnt be changing- although i know software configuration exist on some boards, i think its more common with the awe32's- but as i say , i could be totally off.....

NO NO NO Dominicus. Creative produced software so DOS could use their PnP cards, it is very memory intensive and must admit I have had problems with it, therefore I go to Boot fairs and look for Sound Blaster compatible ISA cards as long as they sit at IRQ5 and base 220 then usually OK

A while back I had a SB16 PNP card successfully working under Windows 3.1 for many years. All of the changes to autoexec.bat & config.sys were made using the drivers CD-ROM supplied with the card. Creative install a couple of new directories to make the card work with Windows 3.1. Here are the lines the setup program added to my autoexec.bat & config.sys:-
AUTOEXEC.BAT
SET SOUND=C:\SB16
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H3 P330 T6
SET MIDI=SYNTH:1 MAP:E
SET CTCM=C:\CTCM
C:\SB16\DIAGNOSE /S /W=C:\WINDOWS
C:\SB16\MIXERSET /P /Q
C:\CTCM\CTCU /S /W=C:\WINDOWSCONFIG.SYS
DEVICE=C:\CTCM\CTCM.exeNot easy without the CD-ROM & programs, but you may be able to get the setup program off of the Creative Website.

Just found it. The Configuration Manager for Windows 3.1 for Sound Blaster 16 PNP is available for download here http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/drivers/product.asp?bypass=1&category=2&os=1&driverlang=&prod=36&drivertype=1
Hope this helps.

OK -first i did say i wasnt sure, but secondly, are you saying teat they set it up so dos could *use* their PnP cards, or are you saying that they set it up so that dos *had* pnp?
I didnt say that you couldnt use a pnp card in dos or win 31, (my net card is PnP , in fact,) but rather that PnP doesnt work in dos and/or w31- now the thing i wasnt sure about was that i know several manufacturers claim to have pnp progs for dos or w31, but in my experience they failed miserably.
Brim's config setup is pretty much the standard addition to those files thatr the creative drivers setup adds, except for the ctcm.
Odd that youd be looking for SB compatible isa cards, as most of the SB16 cards were isa bus,at least in my experience- ive run across well over a hundred by now and almost all of them were......

Well know I apologise if I was Curt, I should of said that the Creative Software translates the PnP configuration to standard ISA readable configuration so that to DOS/W3x it appears as a standard ISA card.
Brim you link was for the later AWE series, my earlier link was for the SoundBlaster 16 PnP though the translation software is the same for both.
Again i apologise if I was offhand....TGIF
ISA nonPNP cards for use in pure DOS work fine, if you go to Boot Fairs etc everybody would like SoundBlaster and pay silly money, therefore by buying compatible

Of course we are all here to help and the cbfm.exe locks up, original post. Firstly are you using the driver I was pointing you too?
http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/drivers/product.asp?bypass=1&category=2&os=15&driverlang=&prod=36&drivertype=1
Secondly I had problems running getting this software to run and detect card in DOS6, therefore gave up.
I would suggest to remove all the present drivers and re-install.
Sorry can not be more help Jazza!

I have an SB AWE 64 sound card, and the included PnP Manager(CTCM) works fine under my MS-DOS 7.10(with 3xStart patched) and Win 3.1.

Just letting everyone know that I have dual booted DOS 6.22,98SE and FreeBSD finally. And got the mixer etc working. Thanks a lot guys for all your help!
Jazza
