Hi,
I don't have a problem, but rather a tip for people who for some reason wants to run Windows 3.x.
I've tried using Virtual PC for running 3.x but in my experience there are a lot of issues when running applications on 3.x on VPC.
Then I happened to find a program called DOSBox when I was looking for a way to play DOS games on Vista.
So I looked in the official forums for that app to see if the games I wanted to play were supported and I stumbled upon a thread with instructions on how to run Win 3.x on DOSBox, which actually emulates a 386 and not just virtualizes your current CPU like VPC.
So I gave it a shot and installed it and it's much more stable now than on VPC and none of the issues I had with 3.x on VPC are there now.
It works flawlessly. There are even high color graphics drivers and sound drivers available.
There is no network card emulated though but it says there will be in the future. Here's DOSBox:
http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/downl...And here's the Win 3.x tread:
http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtop...Links to all the drivers are in the thread too.

I wouldn't know why you had so many problems with VPC+Win31 though. I got everything to work under VPC with the exception of the network.
But nonetheless, that is cool and you can do a lot of useful stuff with it (Civilization II and Ski-Free, anyone).
I never used Dosbox though, but the fact that Windows 3.1 runs under it is interesting. There is a howto somewhere on the internet where you can install Win31 under QEMU with Sound Blaster support and 256 color support via Cirrus Logic drivers (I played Civilization II under it).
Your having more luck with Dosbox with Windows 3.1 than I'm having with the Ubuntu net upgrade right now, but that's a whole different story in itself.
Happy Computing =-)

You must have...
seen this, surely...http://computing.net/windows31/wwwb...
I made that =]
and since then I run Windows XP With VPC (on the same machine, no problem) and am currently awaiting a RAM upgrade =]

It's cool to see the interest in Windows 3.1 is still going! Wow. I mean: it's an O/S from 1991. 15 years.
Don't get me wrong: I have it on a bootable CD. Along with a CD with Win95, 98 and Me.
But I never thought I'd see the mention of the word Ubuntu in a Windows 3.1 thread. rkix, don't forget Ubuntu Forums for help with that.
