Using a new Windows XP machine, I am desperately trying to retrieve an old backup catalog created in Windows 3.11 for Workgroups, but without success.Any tips or help would be so much appreciated!!!
Rds and thanks,
Roy

Hi roy:
I was able to copy the DOS 6.22 msbackup files (should be the same as Windows backup, just make sure you use the same version of DOS) to a created DOS directory in Win 98, from there you need to exit Windows & launch msbackup in DOS. From there I was able to load old backup file(s) to reinstall them, don't know if it will work in XP (have my doubts). Maybe you could try using a zip program to copy files & try to un-zip in XP, it's difficult to restore data using backup in a different OS. One last thing is if you can restore your data to a Win 9x PC with a CD burner, you can copy to a CD-R disk which will give you the best backup to other OSs.Good luck.

I am having the same issue as Roy...with the exception that I am running Win ME. I do not have the DOS 6.22 disks, however, I have a setup executable for installing 6.22. I scared to do that, though, because there's no telling what that will do to my computer. Does anyone know of any way at all to restore a file that was backed up under Win 3.11 under Win ME? Help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

how about using a windows 3.11 machine to restore the file. I know...how are you going to find that. I have an old notebook that has Win 3.1 on it. Not sure if that would work or not.
