I have a labtop with a modem set at com2, and a data fax modem on my pentium tower set as com2 also. I was wondering if I could use the Windows for workgroups Remote Access program to dialup my windows 98se machine if the 98 machine had dialup server installed. I want to do this is have both of the modem connected via a phone cable from one modem to the other. will this work? Also I was wondering if I could a serial cable in remote access?

If you want to use a data transfer cable between both machines, i suggest you use a parallel
one (much faster). The best and easiest way i know of is this:

First, create a Dos folder in the root of your Win 98se system, then save interlink.exe to it from a floppy (exists on your laptop computer), or download it from my page in the Networking section.

Then, on your laptop computer (running WFW 3.11 w Dos 6.22 right?), execute the Dos command Intersvr from Dos or a Dos box. This will turn your laptop into a server for DTC purposes.

Then in the config.sys of your Win98se system, add the following line:

device=c:\dos\interlnk.exe

Now reboot your Win98se system, and you will see the drives from your laptop (something like A: (floppy) drive = D:, and C: (HD) = E.)

Now you can move stuff to and from these drives
as if they were drives in your Win98se system. After you are done, you can rem out the
command in your config.sys file:

rem device=c:\dos\interlnk.exe

As long as you don't need it, it can stay that way. If you need to move stuff to and fro
again, just remove the rem in front of the command and reboot.

Hi Homer J.

I suggest that you use Direct cable connection to do this, you will need an interlink parallel cable, which you will need to attach into the Printer Port of both your computer and your laptop, then run the DCC program and select parallel and you should be able to drag and drop files like using Windows Explorer, Hope This Helps

Actually it should be impossible

DOS cannot read FAT32 (Win 98's File System)

It works since the laptop is running WFW 3.11 on a fat16 (the one being read). I do it all the time.
