I'd like to reistall Windows 3.1 on my old
IBM Aptiva 486.I've his original CD called:"
Recovery CD PartN°8124957 etc.".
I lost his boot disk.I tried to install
by another Dos boot disk but it doesn't work.
Do I have to change something in the Dos
boot disk?
I've a question if I download an old version
of Dos like 4.0 or5.0 from Web is it illegal?
Nobody are selling them anymore so?
Thanks for any help..uh! this site is GREAT!
I'm learning always new things reading that!

All Microsoft products are still licensed period, though OpenDOS/DRDOS is free for personal use, or you could use FREEDOS which is like Linux free within the terms of the open source license agreement.

As to your Aptiva problems have you looked in IBM support they still have lots of info available, though a Recovery Disk is not a full version, the manufacturer installs a hidden partition on the hard drive which the recovery CD accesses.

Please do not respond asking for copies of M$ software here, as this site will be in danger of being hounded by M$
