Hi, i hope someone can push me in the right direction on this one.
I have a custom machine running Win 3.11 - it is not a normal computer but a diagnostic machine with limited keyboard (digits only) and startup moves right to the custom software for diagnostics.
This machine has a system setup option where it prompts for a password and i suspects it is checking against the [user].PWL file found in windows dir where also SHARES.PWL etc is located.
I have tried several programs to retrieve the password but most of them claims it is not correct pwl file - and i think that is simply because the software was designed for win 95 + pwl files.
This machine is old and support/knowledge is absent so i am stuck on my own as far as i know.
Anyone know of a way to retrieve the passwords from pwl files on 3.11 ? I have a win 95 machine available to run "old" programs.
I dont think deleting the pwl file will help simply because it is merged with the other software systems installed.Regards
Tomas

[1] If the pw is for BIOS setup it's probably not in a PWL file.
[2] If you do need to get rid of PWL files, can you boot on a floppy? CD?

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.M2

Thanks for your reply, the unit does not have any media stations.
I dont think it is BIOS setup but rather setup of the unit and probably access to the operating system. I could be ofcourse a password outside windows handling this and in that case it would be very difficult to determine.
Whats odd is than none of the brute forces program i have tested has been able to match any of the pwl files located under windows. Perhaps i am not running any of them correct then....
I have 2 hdd backup clones (booting ok) so i could test it after removal of pwl file.
