Is it possible to recover overwritten files? If so, how can I do this?

Any thoughts welcome here!

Have they been overwritten or just deleted?. If deleted then the Dos Undelete function might work (you don't say what Dos Ver you are using but I presume 6.22). If actually overwritten then a vastly expensive pc forensic prog might work but is it worth the price?

Good luck

Windows 3.1 provides a GUI for the Undelete utility; in the File Manager, it's the last button in the row of buttons on the top. It will tell you what files are available for undeleting and in what condition they're in. If the condition is "Excellent" you'll probably get most if not all of your file back intact; if the condition is "Good" you might only get a piece here and a piece there. Anything less than "Good" is probably not worth recovering unless it was REALLY crucial data, and of course it's impossible to recover "Destroyed" files because they've already been totally overwritten.

Val and Sokko, thanks for your replies.
The files were very important and yes, they were overwritten and not deleted.

I know its shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted!

But after losing Data in two different ways, One by overwriting a vital report, and one by losing Data due to a power cut.

I now ALWAYS edit a copy of all my documents, keeping the original intact by saving it as docname.bak and SAVE my work at each and every page break.

As word processor's have improved most of this can now be done for you. Later versions of Word have a 'always save backup' option for example!

Aaaaaagh!!! Dreamweaver has overwritten all my files (template issue) and my last backup was 5 days ago. Using win 98. Is there anyway I can recover the (HTML) files? I hadn't uploaded them either unfortunately. Any help appreciated.

Going balder by the minute!!
