Is there any public domain software that will read norton backup disks. Some are in propriatary format some aren't. I have a few shoeboxes and I'd like to see if there is anything useful on them I don't have my original norton software anymore. I have computers running win3.1 and win98, so anything that would run on those would be fine.

Best thing to do is to try and get hold of a copy of Norton Backup. Trying to get into differant versions of MS-DOS Backup is bad. But Norton! You need the real thing..

I just checked an old partial backup disk. The file is read by NBwin.exe which is part of NDw. I can read the files but am not knowledgable enough to say it would do you any good. Freelinks should post Norton Desktop for Windows soon. Get that application, install and run backup assistant. It looks for assist.set Command line would be NDWroot\nbwin.exe -M -A assist.set...........if you wanted to run norton backup assistant
Realize this is a bit vague but if Links doesn't post upload soon get back to me and I will send NDW 1.0 along..
