1. Make sure you've backed up everything that needs to be backed up

2. Format the hard drive

3. Re-install everything

To remove "ALL!!" information on your
hdd. Boot to an a: prompt with a windows
disk in the cdrom.

Type format c:/s/u [hit enter]
after format type
c:/ [hit enter]
then
setup [hit enter]

Make sure you have all you device drivers
at hand. And any data you value backed up in
some way...

And remember. bill doent support 98 any
more.He wonts you to buy xp..100 billion
isent enough!!!!So some of the patches and
upgrades you have you cant be replaced!

SLOW DOWN.

Check that you have ALL the programs you need
Graphics Driver
Modem Driver
CD-ROM Driver
'Any Other' Driver
As its a Windows 98 Update. Have you still got your Windows 95 CD?
BACKUP ALL the work you want to keep.
STOP THINK 'Have I forgot Anything?'
Win98 Updates you can get of the NET after you have finished. Like I.E.6 for example.

Make a checklist of what you need.

Now think about reformating!

you said you have windows xp on your hard drive, you said you put a boot disk in your floppy drive & the computer does not recognize it. My question is, is your boot disk good? Get another boot disk from some one else & try that, weather you are running windows xp or any other OS, the boot disk should get you to an A: prompt.
you said you could give more info, have you ever formated a hard drive before?

Hi, I'm having the same problems trying to reformat my hard drive under WinXP. I used a MS-DOS boot disk and it loaded up at startup but when I type in "format c:" it gave me something like "bad command...something" I forgot what it says but it was something like that. Can someone out there post elaborate steps to reformat a hard drive under WinXP?
