Hi, I am looking for a mouse driver that will allow a PS/2 mouse to work with Win 3.1.
We are using proprietory (sp) software/machine on a milling machine and the old computer died. I was able to save the program and get it to work on a newer computer however the special keyboard they have does not want to work well with the new system. Replacement cost from the manufacturer is 10 grand and they will not part it out.
All the com ports are being used by the milling machine so a PS/2 mouse would work fine i think.
Anyway instead of 10 grand, it took me just 4 hours to get a rigged system that works and the machine is back in production. Now I just need to get a PS/2 mouse to work with 3.1 which i seem to be having problems with. Its been MANY years since I touched 3.1 so I'm pretty happy with getting it all back up to this point anyway.
Thanks

Thanks.
I tried that with an MS mouse and it didnt like me.
I also tried a logitech driver for 3.1 and ps2 and no help there either.
I checked the bios just to be sure nothing was turned off and it looked good.
The autoexec looks good as well as the system.ini. The mouse drivers are loading, they are just not working.
I don't see an option in 3.1 to specify where the mouse is connected to. Is there an ini file I can specify that it is an ps2 port?
Thanks

'Generic' PS/2 is natively supported by Win31, just invoke setup either from Windows or DOS and scroll through the mouse options

Without starting up windows type

Move the mouse about - does the cursor move? If it does, then your mouse is OK from the PS/2 port. You may need a special driver if it is a Logitech mouse.
PS/2 mice have been supported for a long time. I remember using them on Windows 2.11 in 1988. Didn't have any problems then.

... in other words, test the mouse in DOS - although the method listed above assumes that:
a) you have a DOS mouse driver loaded
b) it's an executable (COM or EXE) named 'mouse'
Kind of a lot to assume - as well, the presence or absence of a DOS mouse driver has no bearing on Windows functionality

I have yet to see a mouse that MSmouse 901 wouldn't drive.
