In the middle of everything my 3.1 pc just shut off for no apparent reason. I turned it off & back on the the power supply fan spun about 2 secs & nothing. I replaced the power supply which is working in the machine but now the machine refuses to boot. Fan is on but no picture. I put the power supply in another pc & it booted the pc so I know there is no problem with it. The sound card & hard drive in the pc refuse to work when I install them in another pc. The hard drive does not even spin up. Can a power supply dieing kill the motherboard & its components?
That has never happened to me but it seems like you have diagnosed your own problems. I would guess that a power supply, that had a voltage regulator going wacko could supply too high a voltage to your motherboard and take a few components with it on its way out.
