Hi - in inherited an old Venture 386sx laptop. It does not currently run on windows. I would like to install 3.1 (which I have) but - disk 1 has a problem. So I downloaded a copy from the internet. I am now receiving the following when trying to start installation:

Sector not found reading drive A

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

First go buy a pack of brand new 3.5 floppy's.Find dos 6.11 then find win 3.1NT on the internet.(I cant post places to get it here but e-mail me and i send you a few)Make a brand new set of dos and 3.1 disks.Install dos on your machine. Then install 3.1.unlike 95 and up.3.1 requires a version of DOS to operate.3.1 is just a GUI.(so is 95 and up but its a long story)

Actually, Windows 95-ME were all reliant upon DOS for the operation of the OS's. Windows 95 is bundled with MS-DOS 7.00, Windows 98 is bundled with MS-DOS 7.10, and Windows ME is bundled with MS-DOS 8.00. Windows 3.1x is also reliant upon DOS, but any version of the Windows NT line (including Windows NT 3.10), does not depend on DOS for OS functioanality.
