pII and win 3.1??

I need to have a 16-bit system running, so I'm trying to install dos6.22 then win 3.1 on my pII 350mhz. Are there any possible comlications? It hasn't been going too smoothly. After installing dos AND Win 3.1, it only boots to a command line that says Sarting MS-DOS... HIMEM is testing extended memory...done. C:\>C:\DOS\SMARTDRV.exe /X C:\> What could it be? I first installed DOS and then did Win 3.1. Am I skipping a step? Help!!

At the C:\> prompt type: Win (ENTER) That should take you into Windows. Hope that helps. Dave

If what Dave357 said doesn't work, then you might try typing: cd windows (enter) win (enter) that's what I do.

Edit your autoexec.bat file. At the last line add: cd windows win so win 3.1 start's automatically at the boot sequence.

Summary: I have 486 machine. After formating hdd I installed ms-dos 6.22 and win 3.1.When I srart the computer,after the bios information it says starting ms-dos and a curser appears and the computer freezes....

Summary: I didn't quite clarify what I meant about that 5 GB partition. I meant that I use it for extra DOS (and Win 3.1 in the future) filestorage, not the OSes themselves. DOS itself is on a 2 GB partition...
