Subject: PCMCIA network card for old ToshibaOS: Win 3.1CPU/Ram: 386/45hz 20mbModel/Manufacturer: T4500C |
Comment: Hi everyone! I need help :0) Well I got this little old laptop (which is very at heart). It's a Toshiba T4500C which I got off ebay for a few shillings. It has 20mb ram, 500mb HD and if I am not mistaken a 386 with 45hz.. it flies with Calmira. I want to but a PCMCIA network card for it, and I am not an expert in hardware. The manual says this of the PCMCIA slot: 16mm PCMCIA slot. ANyboy can help me and tell me what network card should I buy? Thanks everybody and tc. Cheers :0)

Reply: (edit)Here is what the manual I saw said about your computer: "The T4500/T4500C uses a 20MHz Intel 486SX processor." I think that this NIC should work for your laptop: 3COM Fast Ethernet 16 Bit PC Card 3C574-TX This card requires a dongle so make sure you get one that includes the dongle. Should be available on Ebay or other sites.

Reply: (edit)FYI--"386-Enhanced Mode" has nothing to do with a processor, but the way Windows 3.x manages memory. You'd have it even if you installed it on a new P4 or AMD machine... http://www.upenn.edu/computing/printout/archive/v08/3/winmem.html
