I have a very old NEC Versa 10S running Windows for Workgroups 3.11.
It has a PCMCIA card slot at the side which I want to use a Memory Stick Adaptor in it, does anyone know what I need to make it work.
I believe I will need to install a driver, but when can I get it from.

If not, does anyone know how I can copy my Memory Stick JPEG images on to the hard drive. (No USB sockets, Too old a machine)

Memory Stick was developed by Sony for their CyberShot digital cameras and other Sony electronic devices. With the exception of a very few cameras, Memory Stick is only compatible with Sony digital cameras.

You can plug a Memory Adaptor into most PCMCIA or USB capable PC's and it will show as a removable drive. Digital Cameras save pictures in JPEG Format. Most modern Digital Cameras also come with a USB Transfer Cable and Software. None have Win3x Software I know of however.

For info on other types of Digital Memory visit:

For adaptor types see:

You need to have "Card & Socket Services" installed to enable your PCMCIA Slot by the way. Do a search on Laptop Modal and Card & Socket Services to see if you get a match.

I'm not sure what you are asking for, seems like you are asking for some kind of PCMCIA driver? Do you mean you have an adaptor that could let you plug your memory sticks into, but you need a driver for the adaptor to be recognized? Well, i'm just guessing here, but it may be worth a shot to try the PlayAtWill driver. This utility will allow you to use PCMCIA devices in win 3.x (at least some of them, does it support your adaptor? i have no idea!). Can't hurt to try i guess...

Download and run this. Hope it works, or gets you at least a step closer to what you are trying to accomplish.

Lightspeed.

Hi LightSpeed. Yes you can get PCMCIA (and USB) adaptors for Digital Camera Memory Sticks and other formats. These types of cards are also know as "Flash Memory" I have a Compact Flash (CF) PC-CARD adaptor that I used to use in my laptop. If Card & Socket Services are correctly loaded, Windows 3.1 or 95 will recognise the Digital Memory Card as a Removable Drive, enabling you to transfer images to your harddrive.

I still use Compact Memory Cards with my XP Desktop and can access them via a USB Card Adaptor or Transfer Cable.

Hope this works for you Paul. If not come back and we will see what can be done.
