You need a driver, though it possibly is a WinModem and no drivers are available as it is Plug'nPlay compatible, W3.x does not do P'n'P, you would be better off with a second-user ISA modem with W3.x drivers, or an external serial hardware modem.

if the computer does not have a cpu faster that 300mhz and mmx technology. the winmodem won't werk, drivers or no drivers. those modems rely on motherboard/cpu power.

Lucent modems are the only winmodem that will run in linux
I prefer the hardware modems myself and you can get them cheaper on ebay now with people moving to DSL / Cable

I highly doubt that the Lucent modem in question has drivers for Windows 3.1/3.11. I agree with those that say to get an old ISA modem (hardware) or an external serial modem.
I disagree with kkk, as not all winmodems require a 300 Mhz CPU with MMX.
Regardless, get a real modem (hardware).
Good luck.

BTW, Conexant modems run under Linux, but with a shareware (arrgh!) driver (and it was formerly freeware, too!).
