Hi,

Enter CMOS setup and look how your drive is set here. To use whole capacity of the drive you need to enable LBA mode. Perform HDD autodetection and select option with LBA. If you have AMI bios, then you will need to enable LBA mode in Advanced Setting section.
Unfortunately some old bioses not support LBA mode and if you have such bios you will be able to use only about 500M of you drive capacity.

Good luck, Igor M

I have Award BIOS,
on the HDD detection, it shows 3

OPTIONS SIZE CYLS HEAD PRECOMP LANZ SECT MODE

2(Y) 2008 973 64 0 3892 63 LBA
1 2009 3893 16 65535 3892 63 NORM
3 2008 1946 32 65535 3892 63 LARG

I can only select the one with (Y) and it is LBA.
what does this mean?

LBA works just fine. I use it on my 850 MB HD.

Mr. None is right. LbA works fine. Moreover it's the only option which allows you to use whole capacity of hard drive. In your case you must select LBA.

IN FDISK CHOOSE OPTION 4 IE DISPLAY PARTITION INFORMATION, SEE IF YOU HAVE SOME
SPACE LEFT IN THE HDD. THERE IS LIMITATION IN THE MAXIMUM SIZE OF A SINGLE DRIVE IE 504MB
ENABLE LBA OR LARGE IN YOUR BIOS FOR YOUR HARD DRIVE, AND THEN CHOOSE YES WHEN YOU RUN FDISK IF IT ASK YOU FOR LARGE DISK SUPPORT.

I purchased PartitionMagic4.0 in order to install W98Japanese into my pc (W98English preinstalled).

Though I followed the instruction 100%, the screen show the message stating that my pc has too many files in the root directry and it is impossible to install Windows files.

Unfortunately, I have not got helpful advise from the software company.

Do I have to chage BIOS configuration from CHS to LBA mode? This is one of opinion of a friend of mine.

My pc is DELL Dimension XPS holding 10G of hard drive. RAM is 64. I do not think if I should have any problem as capacity-wise.

Anybody knows how to help me out?
