It is very likely that the CMOS backup battery is dead. What I would do is this: Take the cover off from the computer and look at the hard drive (removing it only if necessary to see the label). You'll need at least the brand name (like Seagate, Maxtor, Quantum, etc.) and the model (like ST3120A, etc). Even better, there may be a list of the parameters right on the label. This info should include Cylinders, Heads, Sectors, Landing Zone, Precompensation, and size. Write down any of this info you can find to use in the configuration. If you only get the make and model, you can probably get the other info by posting the make and model here.
Then see if you can locate the battery. This may look like a large watch battery, about 20 MM in diameter. Remove it and go buy a replacement is possible. Even without the battery, you could use the system by entering the correct data when booting. Of course, all of this was assuming that there actually is a hard drive installed. If not, you could always add one, or, if a CD is present, make a floppy to boot it and use the CD as drive C, but that's another story altogether.....--GG
