This is probably a stupid question, but I'll ask anyways because I'm curious. How secure is Windows 3.1? By that I mean... Is it prone to attacks from viruses, hackers, and other junk? Just thought I'd ask. I know Win 3.1 isn't a mainstream OS and I don't think Microsoft even supports it anymore. However I'm probably wrong about this. The Win3x architecture seems a lot different form that of Win9x. Does that make it more secure on the net? I like Win 3.1 compared to more recent Windows versions because of its small size and because its not a resource hog. It works great for an older machine like an early Pentium or a 486. I always hear about Microsoft releasing hundreds of patches fixing some kind of security hole. Are Win 3x users any safer from this? Just thought I'd ask. I got an old 486 at the house with a lot of RAM and it surfs the net pretty fast.

3.1 is about as safe as it gets
microsoft*shaking fist* no longer supports windows 3.1
"Win 3.1 isn't a mainstream OS"
no it isnt, but that doesnt mean that lots of people dont have old computers in a closet with win3.1 on them, they just never use them lolwhat is painfully obvious to one person might be just painful to the other

All the online threats that have come out for years now require features that were never inplemented in win31 (like activeX, 32 bit filesystem, etc).
The fact that it runs on 16 bit dos may also have an effect, but viruses tend to be targeted at windows, not dos (remember that win 9x/ME *still* runs on dos).
I think the only way to get any virus/spyware now on win31 is to get it from a ten year old infected disk.(Hey, it happened to me!).
Otherwis, it's nearly impossible nowadays...so yeah, in that regards, it's really secure.
If someone wanted access to your harddrive remotely though, they could easily do that to a dos/win31 computer, as theres no security in that area....
