OS: Windows 3.1 (WFW)
CPU/Ram: 133 mHz / 64 MB
Comment:

I recently purchased a Hewlett-Packard Omnibook 2000cs laptop computer from a friend. It was originally designed for the Windows 95 operating system, however, because it did not have an OS installed when I received it, and, because it does not have a CD-ROM drive, I was forced to install my floppy disk version of Windows 3.1 (WFW) on it.

Mechanically, the system runs fine under this OS environment, however, while within Windows the screen does not display in what I would call "full screen" mode. The Windows desktop is shown in a window smaller than that of my actual screen size (somewhat like on a picture in picture television).

In DOS however, the display appears perfectly fine (as well as when the screen saver loads in Windows). And yes, I've tried changing the Windows display type from EGA, VGA, VGA (v. 3.0), SVGA, Compaq Plasma.. etc.; nothing seems to work, and, even though the system runs fine... the black frame around my display is extremely annoying.

I've been attempting to fix this problem, literally, for days now. If someone could please assist me it would be greatly appreciated.

System Specs:
HP Omnibook 2000cs
WFW 3.1
133 mHz
64 MB RAM
12' TFT (Active Matrix) Display

Regards,
Dan

Some laptops have an additional setting in the BIOS to expand to full screen. I suggest you look for this. With my HP Pavilion N5150 it is called "Video Expansion". I suggest you look for(in the BIOS) and try any additional screen settings that might perform this function.

Most notebook computers require that you install an updated video driver for your operating system before the display will show full screen. Go to Hewlett Packard's support site and download the most current driver. Here is the URL:

Good luck!
