Some details to get work old win versions:
With the 3XSTART we can install and run all versions from 1.01 to 3.11.
Surprisingly win 1.01 to win/286 (2.11) read the files in the FAT32 file system, also reads ramdrives and cd-rom.For the examples below I used a boot diskette with the 7.10 dos from win 98 patched with 3xstart an a few commands, a 233 MMX Pentium processor with 64MB RAM and 6 GB HDD in only one FAT32 partition.
I have 7 win versions installed on this machine in different directories:
WIN101, WIN103, WIN20, WIN286, WIN30, WIN31 and WIN311.
Winxp is also installed on this machine. To avoid conflicts with xp boot files when you install any windows remove the changes made by those installers in autoexec.bat and config.sys files.Run win 1.01 / 1.03 (just real mode)
All we need here is the SETVER command installed in your config.sys file:
DEVICE=SETVER.EXE
On command prompt type:
C:\> SETVER WIN100.BIN 3.40
then restart and run.Run win 2.03 / 2.11 (just real mode)
We need here only SETVER in config.sys because WIN200.BIN is already in the setver table.
DEVICE=SETVER.EXE
then restart and run.Run win 3.0 (standard mode)
I can´t run win 3.0 in extended mode but it works in standard mode.
Win 3.0 does not recognize HIMEM.SYS from 7.10 dos version but it works with dos 5.00 HIMEM.SYS, however I can´t get extended mode, so I run win 3.0 with the 'WIN /2' line command.Run win 3.1 / 3.11 (extended mode)
Here we use HIMEM.SYS from 7.10 with no problem. Also works if SMARTDRV is installed.You will find old windows version on the web.
